Cristiano Ronaldo, 13 years old turning 30: “When I stop it will be a sad day”

“Cristiano Ronaldo has a biological age well below his real age. He could play until he is 40”, Dr. Ripoll confessed to MARCA a year ago. He already has 37 ‘springs’, but the years do not pass by him.

CR7 is still turning 30. The former Real Madrid player has 13 consecutive seasons scoring 30 goals or more. His penalty goal in the win against Brentford (3-0) allowed him to reach his ‘thirties’ this season. He has scored 24 goals with Manchester United (18 in the Premier and six in the Champions League) and six with Portugal. In the league, only Son (19) and Salah (22) have more than 18 goals.

“He is an extraordinary professional and has incredible talent. He will continue to score goals despite his age. With the hunger that he has, he can continue helping the team”, recognizes Raphael Varane, with whom he already coincided at Real Madrid.

“Cristiano is doing unbelievably for his age. To score so many goals in the Premier is an incredible achievement. His way of playing has changed… but he continues to produce goals. When he stops playing it will be a sad day for football.” says Dimitar Berbatov.

He has equaled the league goals from his last year at United

Age is just a number for Cristiano. Only Johny Hancocks (Wolverhampton, 1955-56) had scored 18 goals in the English League at the age of 37 or older.

There is even better data. Cristiano has equaled the Premier League goals (18) from his last season at Manchester United (2008-09). It was his last course just before signing against Real Madrid. He then needed 33 games and this time he has achieved it in only 29. He was 24 years old.

His future at Manchester United is not guaranteed

Cristiano Ronaldo has fully complied. He has one more year left on his contract… but his future at Manchester United is by no means guaranteed before the imminent arrival of Erik ten Hag.

“In the end, it’s up to both Erik and Cristiano. It’s not for me to talk about this. He has one more year on his contract and it is important to know what he wants, if he wants to stay. This is something that we should talk about between Erik, the board and myself,” suggested Ralf Rangnick after beating Brentford.

Roy Keane, who coincided with Cristiano Ronaldo in his first spell at Manchester United, has a very different opinion: “I know there are many rumours, but I can’t imagine Cristiano not being in the team next season unless something drastically changes.

The former captain of the ‘red devils’ praises Cristiano’s contribution: “If you look at the goals he scores you see that he is a constant threat. Any coach would want to work with him. It’s as simple as that”.

Another ‘heavyweight’, Rio Ferdinand, is also committed to the continuity of CR7: “Every coach should sit down and talk to his most influential player. He should tell him: ‘This is what I want from you. You can no longer score 50-60 goals by season’. With age all players decline. Cristiano is not stupid and he knows it, but he is coping well.”
