The Italian defender Juventus Giorgio Chiellini announced his retirement from the Italian national team after the clash against Argentina at the end of Conmebol-UEFA Champions Cup 2022which will be played in Wembley next June 1.
“If I’m fine, I’ll play and say goodbye to the national team in Wembley, where I certainly lived the peak of my national career and perhaps my career in general (Euro 2020), that victory was something unique. I would like to say goodbye to the ‘azzurra’ shirt with a celebration match like that”, he declared to DAZN at the end of the Serie A victory against Sassuolo (1-2).
The central defender, however, left the door open to continue his career as a footballer, which points to a future in the mls: “With the national team, it’s sure to be the last. Let’s let those who are good play,” he commented with a laugh. “Without a doubt, he will be the last in the selection,” he said.
