The Mazatlan FC from the Basque coach Beñat San José he beat at home 2-1 at White Roosters de Querétaro at the start of the fifteenth day of the 2021 Apertura tournament of Mexican soccer. Mazatlán’s goals were from Brazilian Camilo Sanvezzo and Iván Moreno; Uruguayan Jonathan Dos Santos scored for Querétaro.
The victory helped Mazatlán to add 20 points, jump from eleventh to sixth place and establish themselves in the play-off zone, which will be played by the teams that finish the regular phase between position five and 12. The defeat leaves the Gallos in position 14 with 15 points.
The duel started with greater possession of the ball for the local team during the first 15 minutes, although with inaccuracies in their attempts to reach the Querétaro area.
In the 25th minute, Mazatlán generated its first shot on goal with a ball that Daniel Amador finished off with a scissor from the edge of the large area, but Uruguayan goalkeeper Washington Aguerre deflected. A minute later, again on the right, Jorge Padilla filtered a ball to Moreno, who finished off powerful from the right to overcome Aguerre and give the home team a 2-1 advantage.
Querétaro let go of the equalizer in the 65th minute when Uruguayan goalkeeper Nicolás Vikonis made a mistake in the clearance and left the ball lying in wait for his compatriot Nicolás Sosa, but Gallos’s gunner could not control the ball and shoot at goal.
